A Trail for Everyone
Hiking opportunities are sprinkled throughout the region, some rich with history and mine views; others are stunning with untouched natural beauty and in a range of difficulties.
Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range has become a mountain biking mecca. Explore 25 scenic miles of trails built on former mine lands at RedHead Mountain Bike Park. These hiking and bike trails weave through woodlands and along the edge of mine lakes with crystal waters. Redhead is part of a larger Ride the Range experience, which includes lift-served gravity trails at Giants Ridge resort and additional reclaimed mine land trails at Tioga and Cuyuna mountain bike areas.
Off-highway vehicle fun, head to Gilbert, which is home to Minnesota’s first Iron Range Recreational Area. This 3,600-acre park has trails exclusively for ATVs including 4X4 vehicles, all-terrain trucks, and motorcycles.
Adventure Around Every Corner
Discover the excitement of the sprawling nature preserve of Sax-Zim Bog, the 1,090,000-acres of wilderness at Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and the region’s premier outdoor adventure destination at Tioga Recreation. The Mesabi Trail covers 125 miles of paved cycling trails connecting more than 40 communities from the Mississippi River in the west to the Boundary Waters in the east.
There's also something for everyone at Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort. Golfers can take a swing at the acclaimed Legend and Quarry courses. Adventurers can try disc golf and paved cycling. Crystal-clear lakes, rivers, and streams offer swimming, boating, fishing, or just relaxing amongst our stunningly beautiful natural backdrop.
